On an equal footing

The “energy panel” met on Monday for the sixth time. This group of experts, convened by the provincial administration, met for the first time in February. Work is progressing well: the panel has agreed in the past few weeks on a common model
for the concession guidelines for large hydropower plants.

The South Tyrol Energy Association described the talks, held in a fair and constructive atmosphere on an equal footing, as a
complete success. “The search for common solutions has certainly paid off so far”, says the Association’s CEO, Rudi Rienzner. Prejudices in dialogue were reduced. In its policy paper “The Second Way”, published in 2013, the South Tyrol Energy Association expressed its view that the creation of a co-operation platform for all energy operators in South Tyrol is an indispensable “confidence-building measure”.

The South Tyrol Energy Association therefore advocates a continuation of discussions in the energy panel. This is the only way to reach an understanding on an acceptable future perspective for the local energy sector. In other words, South Tyrol will have to develop co-operative models in order to compete at international level.
