Active dialogue

The electricity distributors and producers of the South Tyrol Energy Association (SEV) are today meeting for their regular discussions in Welschnofen. The Association arranges these meetings in order to actively promote constructive dialogue between stakeholders in South Tyrol and foster the sharing of valuable expertise, thus positioning itself as a comprehensive
service platform of regional significance.

On the agenda are important issues such as occupational safety, contracting, management procedures and future trends. The host is the Welschnofen Energy Production Co-operative. Autonomous and indigenous power generation has a long tradition here: one of the first hydroelectric plants in Tyrol was built for the Grand Hotel Karersee in 1908, and another power station
was opened on the local river in 1912. Since 1999 power in Welschnofen has been supplied on a co-operative basis, providing cheap, locally sourced power to private homes, hotels and businesses. The results speak for themselves: the co-operative’s five power plants today cover all annual power requirements of the municipality.
