The future is here

30.04.2014
The energy transition is changing the energy sector, strengthening the position of co-operatively-run suppliers, while giving local providers a competitive advantage. The study commissioned from the consulting firm Pöyry by the South Tyrol Energy Association on “co-operative energy supply” clearly demonstrates this, and also relates success stories.

Simply selling electricity is no longer enough: the Alb-Elektrizitätswerk Geislingen-Steige eG power plant near Stuttgart, created in 1910, therefore intends to become an “innovative electricity supplier with regional roots for reliable power supply and all power-related services”, and is now close to achieving its objective. This traditional operator supplies not just electrical energy: the managing co-operative today controls a diversified group of companies that offer high-tech products and consulting services – and even operates its own electrical trade store.
