Smart grids

05.02.2014
Energy from water and solar sources depends, in South Tyrol as elsewhere, on the weather. The decentralised use of renewable energy can make use of smart grids to ensure efficient “communication” between producers, distributors and consumers.

This project sees Etschwerke Netz AG and the consulting firm of Syneco as partners of the South Tyrol Energy Association.
The utilisation of existing networks is to be optimised in co-operation with South Tyrolean distributors, to the benefit of energy companies and electricity consumers. This will be of particular help to smaller distributors: smart grids could in future remotely monitor distribution and ensure early identification of problems in the network.

As only a few electricity and heat distributors in South Tyrol currently have automated distribution and smart control systems, the services offered by the smart grid initiative will allow small businesses to make on-the-spot use of the advantages of large companies in terms of technical expertise.
