We are behind you

South Tyrol is colourful and diverse. We not only excel in the energy industry, but also in the organisation of our delocalised structures, excellent client service and reliability. In the last 50 years, we have seen a number of strong SMEs grow in the province, confidently increasing their revenue and reinvesting it.

Europe’s strategy

Europe as a “climate continent”? Following his election last July, Jean-Claude Juncker, the incoming president of the European Commission stated: “I want Europe’s Energy Union to become the world number one in renewable energies”. The development of renewable energy was “an industrial policy imperative if we still want to have affordable energy at our disposal”.

The Vinschgau Valley as a model

A model for other parts of the region too: the province of South Tyrol has opened the way for the transfer of electricity distribution to nine municipalities in the Vinschgau Valley, thus confirming the work of the South Tyrol Energy Association. We should emphasise pluralism in electricity policy too. The “municipalisation” of electricity networks is an important step in the right direction.

My energy

In the words of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, “that which is beyond the scope of the individual can be achieved by the many”. This has for decades also been true of the energy landscape in South Tyrol. Today, non-profit business models of energy co-operatives, oriented towards the public good and supported by the South Tyrol Energy Association, are proving particularly successful.

Smart grids

Without “smart” grids, efficient use of renewable energy is not possible. The reason is simple: sun, wind and water are not always or only to a limited extent available, while energy suppliers require constant and reliable electricity generation.

Research work

The technology for the sustainable use of renewable energy is developing rapidly. The South Tyrol Energy Association is therefore committed to innovation and is actively working with local partner organisations in the areas of research and development. Co-operation instead of confrontation – this applies equally to investment for the future.

On an equal footing

The “energy panel” met on Monday for the sixth time. This group of experts, convened by the provincial administration, met for the first time in February. The future is here

EThe energy transition is changing the energy sector, strengthening the position of co-operatively-run suppliers, while giving local providers a competitive advantage. The study commissioned from the consulting firm Pöyry by the South Tyrol Energy Association on “co-operative energy supply” clearly demonstrates this, and also relates success stories.

Building for the future

The energy landscape of South Tyrol is facing change: the “monolithic structure” preferred in the past has caused many problems, said Florian Zerzer, director of the department of regional development, environment and energy, in his welcome speech at the general meeting of the South Tyrol Energy Association at the Museion in Bozen.

New thinking

The decentralisation of energy systems continues. At the same time, energy suppliers in South Tyrol are also becoming energy service providers with a wide range of offers. These are the key themes arising from a study by the consulting firm Pöyry, to be discussed today at the Association’s general meeting at the Museion in Bozen, South Tyrol.

Cheaper electricity

Many South Tyrolean companies face international competition and are therefore dependent on low-cost energy supplies. Cheaper electricity? Why not? South Tyrol can after all supply itself from its own resources and is now in the fortunate position of being able to offer low-priced electricity to businesses and households.

Smart grids

Energy from water and solar sources depends, in South Tyrol as elsewhere, on the weather. The decentralised use of renewable energy can make use of smart grids to ensure efficient “communication” between producers, distributors and consumers.
This project sees Etschwerke Netz AG and the consulting firm of Syneco as partners of the South Tyrol Energy Association. The utilisation of existing networks is to be optimised in co-operation with South Tyrolean distributors, to the benefit of energy companies and electricity consumers. This will be of particular help to smaller distributors: smart grids could in future remotely monitor distribution and ensure early identification of problems in the network.

Autonomous and secure

In the face of power outages in the Upper Puster Valley, the South Tyrol Energy Association stresses the advantages of a decentralised and indigenous energy supply. It is no coincidence that, despite the bad weather, the distribution of electricity works particularly well in areas where small and medium-sized distributors operate.
